Pre-Submission:

Before you submit your manuscript, consider sending the Editor-in-Chief an email to identify interest in your topic. You will also find that the Editors-in-Chief is willing to assign you one of the editors from the editorial board who will guide you and suggest resources to you and introduce you to the peer review and publication process.

Please register for the journal at (https://cjmqr.ca/index.php/cjmqr). This is required for the online submission of your manuscript. Check whether you already have an account in the system before trying to create a new one.

The Canadian Journal of Multidisciplinary Qualitative Research is an online-only journal. This strategy significantly reduces the lead time between submission and publication. The expected time between submitting the manuscript and publishing it is expected to be between 8-16 weeks. Papers are accepted on the understanding that they may be subjected to editorial revision and peer review.

Preparing your manuscript (with prior permission from CJMQR)

  • Formatting your article
American Psychology Association's (APA) writing style is one of the most popular styles. When formatting your manuscript text, in-text citations, and references, please ensure you use the APA (2020, 7th ed.) reference style.
  • Title, keywords and abstracts
You will be asked to supply a title, an abstract and keywords to accompany your article in Word format. There is no need to follow a specific template when submitting your manuscript in Word. However, please ensure your heading levels are clear, and the sections clearly defined.
  • Artwork Guidelines
    • Illustrations, pictures and graphs should be supplied in the highest quality and in an electronic format that helps us to publish your article in the best way possible. Please follow the guidelines below to enable us to prepare your artwork for the printed issue as well as the online version.
  • Format: JPEG: Common format for pictures.
  • Placement: Figures/charts and tables created in MS Word should be included in the main text rather than at the end of the document.
Figures and other files created outside Word (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, TIFF, EPS, and PDF) should be submitted separately. Please add a placeholder note in the running text.
  • Colour: Images supplied in colour will be published in colour online.

On Acceptance and Publication:

The Editor will keep you informed as to your article's progress throughout the production process. Proofs will be sent in Word format to the corresponding author and should be returned promptly.

Primary / Corresponding Author

The primary author takes responsibility for communicating with the Editor during the manuscript submission, peer review, and publication process and ensures that the journal's administrative requirements, such as providing details of authorship and research ethics approval, are completed. The primary author is accountable for all aspects of the manuscript to ensure its accuracy and integrity. The primary author should be available after publication to respond to any requests from the journal for additional information should questions about the article arise from readers. These duties may be delegated to one or more co-authors, with the Editor being informed.

Authorship

Manuscripts should only be considered once all contributing authors give agreement. The primary author should carefully ensure that all those whose work contributed to the manuscript are acknowledged as contributing authors. This includes those who:

  1. Made a substantial contribution to the concept or design of the manuscript, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of the data
  2. Provided substantive feedback when the assignment was submitted for course work; and /or
  1. Critically reviewed the manuscript before submission.

Peer Review Policy

Scholarly peer review (also termed refereeing) is the process of subjecting an author's scholarly work to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field before a paper describing this work is published in the journal. The primary review will be performed by the assigned Editor; then, the assigned Editor will submit the manuscript to two reviewers to review the manuscript blindly. Once the reviewers accept reviewing the manuscript, they will be given four weeks to return their review and feedback to the Editor. The Editor will contact the corresponding author and give him/her three weeks to address the reviewers' comments only if minor or major revisions are needed. Three weeks more will be given to the reviewers again to read and make a decision regarding the revised manuscript. If one or both reviewers rejected the manuscript, the Editor would share the decision with the corresponding author.
